For Noise at Work measurements, this sound level meter gives you everything you’ll need.
An optimus red sound level meters is the ultimate tool for Noise at Work measurements.
All of the parameters you need are measured at the same time so there’s no risk of you missing any important information.
The optimus red sound level meters have been specifically designed to meet the needs of the Noise at Work Regulations. There are a few different versions of the optimus red available so we’ve chosen the version that gives you all of the functions and features needed to make Noise at Work measurements. The CR:162C version of the optimus red is the ultimate sound level meter for Noise at Work measurements.
All of the measurements you need, all measured at the same time..
As you’re working to the Noise at Work Regulations, you’ll need LAeq and LCPeak. You may also want the LCeq-LAeq (C-A) if you’re going to select PPE using the HML method.

You’ll want the Octave Band information if you are going to select PPE using the octave band method and you’ll also need the LEP,d if you are assessing the noise exposure of employees.
With an optimus, there’s no chance of making the wrong measurement. Every function and parameter of the instrument is measured automatically saving you time. The measurements are also stored automatically so there’s no chance of losing your data.
- Measure all of the parameters that you will need all at the same time
- LAeq, LCPeak, LEP,d and C-A (for HML calculations) on all instruments
- Real-time octave band filters to select PPE (C version)
- Record VoiceTag notes directly into the instrument save the use of pen & paper
- Data Logging with VoiceTag audio recording (B & C Versions)
- “Leq Settled” function shows when the level has settled
- Ergonomically designed case
- High resolution colour OLED display
- Illuminated keypad for low light conditions
- 120dB Measurement span all the way up to 140dB(A) and 143dB(C) Peak
- 4GB Memory in the B & C versions can store over 10,000 measurements
- NoiseTools software to download, analyse data and create reports
Simple setup
Setting up an optimus is simple. Just set the time and date and you’re ready to go. If you want to change some of the advanced functions, just press Menu and choose what you need.
Noise Exposure calculated as you measure
The live exposure calculator shows you how much noise you’ve measured and how long it will take to reach the permitted exposure limit or action level.
A quick and simple way to see how long someone can work in that environment before they need PPE
No need to repeat your measurements..
The beauty of optimus is that it records every parameter, all at the same time, so there’s no need to worry about having to repeat your measurements to record different values or functions. This means that if you are looking at the Leq and Peak(C), your instrument is also measuring the Sound Level as well as calculating the noise exposure.
VoiceTag Audio Recording..

Just talk into the microphone before you make a measurement to record your notes and comments. When you download the information to the NoiseTools software, just click and listen to all of the information you’ve recorded.
When you press the Start button, you will see the VoiceTag screen. If you want to record some information, press the Record button and you can store up to 27 seconds of information by simply talking into the microphone on the end of the sound level meter.
- Record notes such as the location, what machinery is running, who is being measured or anything that will be useful when you come to analyse the measurement
- You don’t need to carry a notebook and the VoiceTag is a reminder to make notes about your measurements.
- Information recorded is automatically downloaded to the NoiseTools software where is can be played back.
Wide measurement range

All of the optimus sound level meters have a very wide measurement range. This means that there’s no need to set a range before measuring and there’s almost no chance of overloading the instrument.
Three simple steps to making a measurement
Press the power button. The instrument will start up and show the last view that you used. For example, if you’ve been using the Leq View, this is what you’ll see so there’s no need to change settings.
Calibrate your sound level meter to ensure that your measurements are accurate and reliable. Just put your acoustic calibrator onto the microphone and press the Calibrate button.
Press the start button and the measurement will begin. Your optimus will measure everything at the same time, there’s no need to worry about what’s being recorded or measured. That’s all there is to do. Simple.
